Im very interested in going to music school in the future. Ive only been playing for two years at this point and I know Im pretty crappy and Im not a competant musician at all...so in order to maximize how much i can benefit from schooling I want to know how good someone is when they go to school? Im wondering if I will be sorta ready next year? I saw some threads a while ago here and am very interested in the LA music academy.... but seems they only take like a hundred students at a time.... which to me seems very little....
Id like to post an example of my playing some timebut idunno how....
plus im not exactly proud of this work...its a clip of me and my band playing this instrumental tune... but its this thing where it was like put a mic in the middle of the room where it has crappy acoustics kinda situation so the sound is gross....
at this point iknowmy basic rudiments... i can play basic stuff for swing/ jazz .. sambas and stuff...im probably best at rock and maybe funk kinda stuff... im ok with 6/8 blues but not too good with shuffles.... my half time shuffles are a little better....icant read that well...ive only started reading like a year ago... so i cant sight read and ihave to run throuh stuff several times before ican read it... buti can read if i take time and i can transcribe stuff too.. i recently did tom sawyer and dont take me alive.

I recommend private lessons with a good teacher before the decision to go to music school. Let them tell you when you're ready.

I have a teacher right now. I have been taking lessons with him pretty consistantly for about a year and a half... or so i beleive. Ive learned a lot from him, not only playing but conceptual stuff and attitude and mentality...
Well he says i should start preparing for auditions and stuff and i guess he has other students who want to go to music school as well. I think hes encouraging me to go to school... but i m not sure he thinks im ready yet... i mean he wants me to knock down some more stuff like better reading and rudimental proficiency... and ofcourse i think i need to tighten that up too. But see im kinda a worry bug and really am not sure if ill be capable of even really going to school evenif I tighten upthose things.
Living in such a musicaly isolated place blurs up my vision for players... like I dunno any good players my age around here... but Im sure there are killer players my age on other islands... and even better ones in LA or anywhere else in the mainland....
So I was wondering if you guys could help me out in giving me an idea of how prepared and competant of a musiccian I need to be before I go to school in order to make it work.

You should sit down with your teacher and discuss this properly with him. Let him give you definite answers since you seem a bit unsure as to whether he thinks you should be going to school or not. Perhaps you could also prepare a short demo and send it to the academy. Maybe they can judge from your playing if you're ready or when you might be ready, and give you a direct response. From the horses mouth so to speak.
